The fifth volume contains 28 compositions for bassoon and piano. Like the duets in volume IV, they are by composers of the 17th to 20th centuries and are also arranged progressively in their degree of difficulty. The piano accompaniment is adapted to the level of the bassoon part, though kept relatively simple overall. Occasionally, written-out ornaments in the solo part provide suggestions for musically interpreting the pieces.
