By Dababy Feat. Roddy Ricch. By Jonathan Kirk, Rodrick Moore, Ross Joseph Portaro, Ross Portaro, and Seth Portaro. Arranged by Sarah Cellobat Chaffee. Contemporary,Hip-Hop,R & B. 16 pages. Sarah Cellobat Chaffee #6346147. Published by Sarah Cellobat Chaffee (A0.526277).Released as the second single from DaBaby's third studio album in 2020, "Rockstar" was an immediate hit, spending seven weeks at Number One on the Billboard Hot 100. The song went on to receive nominations for Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Song at the Grammys, and DaBaby later released a remix that included an extra verse centered around the Black Lives Matter protests going on at the time. It's safe to say this was a highly influential song in 2020, and now you can have it in your gig books too! This arrangement for string quartet recreates the sparse acoustic guitar background and the hard-hitting bass line groove, and features a melodic interpretation of the rap parts based on the vocal inflections. You'd be surprised how well this ended up translating to strings! Rated advanced-intermediate for some tricky rhythms and recurring arpeggiations; this will be learnable for students and sightreadable for professionals.
