Although the Gottingen cantor Carl Friedrich Rudorff (1749-1796) worked away from the major musical centers, he does not have to shy away from comparison with his North German contemporaries, who are much better known today. In view of the lively musical life in Gottingen in the second half of the 18th century, one begins to doubt whether one can really speak of a Central German province here. The present release focuses on the works of Rudorff along with works from Joseph Joachim Quantz, CPE Bach, and Wilhelm Fredemann Bach. Due to its musical quality, stylistic diversity and passionate way of performing the Gottinger Barockorchester has gained an important place in the musical landscape of northern Germany. The repertoire of the ensemble spans a period of more than four hundred years. Music of early baroque masters such as Monteverdi and Schutz is part of it as well as the big choir works and instrumental concerts of Bach, Handel and Telemann. Regularly the orchestra presents symphonic works by Haydn, Mozart, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and Brahms, and also music of contemporary composers and debut performances.
