It was arranged to give each instrument a challenging and interesting part, where each instrument has a taste of the solo at one time or another. The arrangement consists of moving contrapuntal lines, imitation, pedal-points, suspensions, and modulations.
The composition is arranged for Flute, Oboe, Bb Clarinet, Horn in F, and Bassoon. (A Bb bass clarinet part is included in the event that a bassoon is not available)
It is at the intermediate level, although the parts have lots of contrapuntal lines and independent playing to do.
Suggested Use: When I was teaching at the high school level, I would take small ensembles, such as this, to all the elementary and middle school in our district. These ensembles were used for recruiting purposes.
This arrangement of five well-known nursery rhymes can also be used by concert bands, ands, wind ensembles, and orchestras as a change of pace for added variety in programming, or for Young Peoples Concerts. They will bring a smile to the "young at heart."
