Joe Garland's infectiously swinging arrangement of "In the Mood" was based on an existing melody, the "Tar Paper Stomp" by trumpeter Wingy Manone. Glenn Miller's 1939 big band version quickly became a No. 1 hit and topped the charts for 13 straight weeks. "In the Mood" became a beloved jazz standard and was inducted in 2004 into the Library of Congress National Recording Registry as a recording that is "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." This arrangement for String Orchestra includes the full score and all five parts.
