M° Gian Paolo Sanzogno in his introduction to the CD of Finzi’s chamber music asks himself how much the sweet Pavana owes to the well-known French examples? This is how he answers his question: «Nothing!». And this time the noble eclectic that exists in Finzi definitely refuses to give in to the attraction of Fauré and Ravel to write a very personal page, all permeated with a dreamy melancholy. Sanzogno loves the Pavana so much that he drew from it an instrumentation faithful to the spirit of the composer.
