Katrien Delavier died of cancer the night of September 21-22, 1998.
her great modesty had made him hide his illness from most of his colleagues and friends. Until the end, she thought that her extraordinary vitality would prevail and that soon this disease would only be a bad memory.
For those who didn't know her, Here is the presentation text she was using:
After a classical training, Katrien Delavier devoted himself from the early 80s to traditional music, mainly Irish. In 1982 she won the first prizes at Kan ar Bobl (Lorient) and the international Celtic harp competition in Killarney (Ireland).
Her passion for the instrument led her to do more in-depth research on the ancient Irish harp that has been missing since the 18th century. This work takes shape within the Hempson group.
Katrien also performs with other groups (in Flemish, Breton, Center-France music, etc.) and has released several albums, two of which are solo.
Its activities are of course supplemented by teaching. She has led numerous courses including that of the Cornish Festival (Quimper) and the International Celtic Harp Festival (Dinan).
In her different formations or solo, Katrien Delavier makes us share the clear and swinging sound of an ancient instrument.
