The composer JB de Boismortier (1682-1765) has dedicated many works to the players of the flute. He wrote numerous sonatas for two flutes and sonatas for flute and general bass, but also cycles of sonatas for three flutes without bass and with bass, as well as concerts for five flutes. The composer lived in the first heyday of flute music when the instrument was preferred by many lovers who were always looking for new works. In this work for the beginners of flute playing, the composer only gives examples in the keys that were playable on the flute at the time. These follow alternately both directions of the circle of fifths, so that the signs gradually increase from C major. So this work is both an introduction to reading and understanding the keys.
