The play is intended as an obituary for a revered and beloved friend, Princess Margaret of Hesse and near Rhine. It is written like a six-part motet and reflects pain, loss and complaint. In the middle appears Johann Sebastian Bach's chorale "My soul exalts the Lord", played around by the elegiac counter-voices of my own music.
