Concert Band - Advanced - Digital Download

SKU: S0.695789

Composed by Jeffrey W. Gettleman. Score,Set of Parts. 76 pages. Published by Jeffrey Gettleman (S0.695789).

This march is for standard US concert band instrumentation. For an advanced high school or university ensemble, about 4 minutes long. Dedicated to the Mescalero Apaches. While not necessarily programmatic, it suggests the Apaches' transition from roaming free on the prairies, through their war with the U.S. government, to their current success as a nation. The score and parts contain this inscription: "I was born on the prairies where the wind blew free and there was nothing to break the light of the sun. I was born where there were no enclosures." - Goyathlay (Geronimo), Apache Leader (1829-1909). The first two strains represent Goyathlay's statement, with a distinct southwestern feel; the tempo slows in the third section to a somber funeral march in a minor key, including a fughetto; the final strain provides an optimistic finale, returning to a major key.
