A psalm of David, Psalm 31 is the poet king’s cries for deliverance and profession of trust in God even as danger surrounds him on every side.
The piece is in ternary form: The first section (A) depicts David’s pleas for help from God. The second section (B) sees strings and voices pile up layer upon layer weaving a growing litany of woes. The final section responds to the pleas by revisiting the motifs in the first section with variations, showing a sense of trust and quiet reassurance.

Suitable for concert setting, Lent and the Holy Week.
