Salute to a Hero was composed to honour the work of a truly deserving musician, teacher, and conductor. It opens with a noble brass fanfare with woodwind ornamentation. Following a short interlude the opening fanfare is again heard this time being played by the full band. A lyrical middle section follows, providing a beautiful and peaceful contrast to the powerful sound of the brass section. The fanfare makes one final appearance bringing the work to a triumphant close.
Salute to a Hero entstand zu Ehren eines verdienten Musikers, Lehrers und Dirigenten als Anerkennung seiner Arbeit. Es beginnt mit einer Blechblaserfanfare, die von den Holzblasern ausgeschmuckt wird. Nach einer kurzen Uberleitung kehrt die Fanfare zuruck, diesmal vom gesamten Blasorchester gespielt. Ein lyrischer Mittelteil bringt Ruhe und Kontraste zwischen den Blech- und Holzblaserregistern hervor, bevor schliesslich wiederum die Fanfare das Werk beendet.
Salute to a Hero inizia con una fanfara degli ottoni rafforzata da figure ornamentali eseguite dai legni. Dopo un breve passaggio di transizione, la fanfara e ripresa da tutto l'organico. Il passaggio centrale si sviluppa in un'atmosfera di serenita sottolineata dal lirismo melodico che offre piacevoli contrasti tra gli ottoni e i legni. La fanfara iniziale chiude il pezzo.
