Three Extraordinary Journeys was commissioned to mark the centenary of the death of the famous author Jules Verne. Based on three novels from his Voyages Extraordinaires series of travel stories, the music aims to capture the excitement and adventure of these famous books. Philip Sparke schreef Three Extraordinary Journeys ter gelegenheid van het honderdste sterfjaar van Jules Verne. Deze schrijver woonde een groot deel van zijn leven in de Franse stad Amiens, waar in 2005 de premiere van hetwerk plaatsvond. De muziek, gebaseerd op drie romans uit Jules Verne's serie reisverhalen Voyages Extraordinaires, geeft de spanning en het avontuur van deze beroemde boeken weer.
