Band director and radio presenter Yutaka Nishida hails from Tokyo and has long been a friend of composer Philip Sparke. As well as conducting bands and teaching, he also presents a weekly two-hour music programme, focusing on both brass and concert bands, on the Japanese national radio station, Digital Radio Musicbird.The programme is called The Bandwagon and the radio station commissioned Philip Sparke to write a march which could be used as a theme tune for the programme. The result is this bright and breezy march in simple ABA form.
Dirigent en radiopresentator Yutaka Nishida komt uit Tokio en is een goede vriend van Philip Sparke. Naast het dirigeren van blaasorkesten en het lesgeven presenteert hij - op de Japanse nationale radiozender Digital Radio Musicbird- een wekelijks programma over blaasmuziek, waarbij de nadruk ligt op zowel brassbands als harmonieorkesten. Dit programma heet The Bandwagon (de muziekwagen), en het radiostation gaf Philip Sparke de opdracht om een marste schrijven die kon worden gebruikt als herkenningstune. Het resultaat is deze vrolijke, frisse mars in een eenvoudige ABA-vorm.
