Composed by Christopher R. Brown. Arranged by Christopher R. Brown. Christian,Gospel,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Score and parts. 119 pages. Christopher Brown #4794241. Published by Christopher Brown (A0.747254).

About the song: This anthem aims to focus on the great truth of John 1:5 - "The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it." At the cross, where darkness seemed to have the upper hand, the Light shone as Christ declared His finished work. In the human heart, where darkness enslaves lost souls, the Light shines as Christ saves us from the power of sin and death. And in the midst of suffering and persecution, the Light will continue to shine as God's presence and everlasting love carries us and strengthens us to continue to live faithfully for Him.

Lyrics:

Verse 1
The Son of Man upon a cross,
All seemed hopeless, all seemed lost.
Our Saviour lay there in the tomb on the third day,
Till that stone was rolled away.

Chorus 1
And the Light shone in the darkness
And the Light shone in the darkness
Darkness could not overcome,
What He’d finished; what He’d done.
And the Light shone in the darkness

Verse 2
The war is won, but battles rage,
Hardened hearts refuse to change.
But when I heard His voice calling out my name,
He gave me life and lit the flame.

Chorus 2
And the Light shines in the darkness.
And the Light shines in the darkness.
Darkness cannot overcome,
What He’s finished; what He’s done.
And the Light shines in the darkness.

Bridge (x2)
When arrows fly and terror strikes in the middle of the night,
Even then, my God's love keeps burning bright.
In the storm, and in the fire, when I'm broken and I'm tired,
Even then, my God's love keeps burning bright.

Chorus 3
And the Light will shine in the darkness.
And the Light will shine in the darkness.
Darkness will not overcome,
What He’s finished and begun.
And the Light will shine in the darkness.
Darkness will not overcome,
What He’s finished and begun.
And the Light will shine,
And the Light will shine,
And the Light will shine in the darkness.
