This famous Farandole is from the Suite for Orchestra No.2, published in 1879, four years after the death of Bizet. Bizet drew his inspiration for Farandole whilst soaking up the sun and traditions of the Provence region of France. This arrangement in four parts with flexible woodwind/brass instrumentation remains faithful to the original and will grace any performance, whether for exams, concerts or just for fun! Georges Bizet studeerde compositie aan het Conservatoire de Paris. Hij was een leerling van onder andere Gounod. In 1857 won hij de prestigieuze Prix de Rome, waarna hij een aantal jaren in Rome verbleef. Na terugkomst in Parijs begon hij zijn carriere op te bouwen. George Bizet schreef L'Arlesienne in 1872 voor het gelijknamige toneelstuk van Alphonse Daudet. Met dit arrangement maakt Lorenzo Bocci Farandole - het laatste deel uit de tweede suite - toegankelijk voor een vierstemmig variabel blazersensemble. L'Arlesienne schrieb Georges Bizet als Buhnenmusik zum gleichnamigen Theaterstuck. Spater erschien die Musik in zwei heute noch sehr beliebten Suiten fur Sinfonieorchester. Le titre de L'Arlesienne designe plusieurs œuvres musicales de Georges Bizet : une musique de scene et deux suites d'orchestre, dont seule la premiere est reellement de sa main. La celebre Farandole est extraite de la Suite d'orchestre ndeg 2 publiee en 1879, quatre ans apres la mort de Bizet. Per comporre la Farandole, George Bizet ha preso la sua ispirazione nei colori soleggiati della tradizione provenzale.
