Composed by George Arvola, Tony Bradan. Jazz,Method,Technique Training. 86 pages. Published by George Arvola Publications (S0.597247).

George Arvola (1948-2016) was a guitarist and music teacher. He created his own series of guitar method books entitled Guitar Fundamentals. Volumes 2-5 of this series are based on a hand-written manuscript entitled A Learning Process for Playing the Guitar by Tony Bradan (1913-1999), George’s teacher. Guitar Fundamentals outlines a process by which students can gain:

  • the ability to read standard notation for guitar (Primer and Book 1)

  • an intimate knowledge of the guitar fretboard, surpassing what they would obtain via the standard 'positional' approach (Books 2, 3 and 4)

  • flexibility in finding appropriate fingerings in real time, for melodies, scales, triads, arpeggios, 3- and 4-part chords (Books 2, 3, 4 and 5)

  • the ability to play accompaniment (Rhythm Guitar Studies)

  • the ability to play 4-part harmony, chord resolutions and voice movement (Book 5)

  • rudiments of improvisation (Book 6)

We are preserving this guitar method online in the hope that present and future generations of guitarists will benefit from the innovative approaches within.
