Leroy Anderson (June 29, 1908 – May 18, 1975) composed some of the most popular tunes of the last century. His ebullience, humor, and gift for melody has made him one of America's best loved composers.

Anderson wrote "Waltzing Cat" in 1950. The piece calls for one of the players to give a sharp whistle several times, and then, near the end to bark like a dog. I have given the vocal parts to the violist, but any of the members of the quartet can do this.
The picture on the cover is from a French postcard of the 19th century..
