Maori Love Song, "Pokerekereana".  Pokarekare Ana is the most famous love song in the history of Maori culture. This song tells a story of two lovers Hinemoa and Tutanekai who are forbidden to be together due to tribal conflicts. Hinemoa swims across the lake to her forbidden lover guided by the beautiful sound of the flute played by Tutanekai and as they say true love always finds a way.
This original arrangement of Pokerekere Ana adds a jazzy twist to the melody that is known for smooth lyrical beauty to those that are more familiar with the tune. Scored for Alto, Tenor, Bari Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, and Rhythm section.
Can be useful to school jazz ensembles looking for extra repertoire exploring New Zealand culture. .
