Enjoying his travels in Scotland, Marco Putz decided to compose a piece for wind band, based on Scottish folk songs. While in the airport at Glasgow, shortly before boarding his plane, Putz bought a collection of folk melodies from all over Scotland that had been arranged for flute. At first he harmonized several melodies in his own style, then he began to alter the resulting pieces (especially rhythmically). Eventually Putz added passages here and there and orchestrated the piece for wind band. Putz's resulting composition is an educational work that is both enjoyable and appealing to players of all ages, although it was written with young bands in mind. From theHighlands is part of a project to increase the repertoire available to youth and school bands, both in quantity and quality; an important personal and musical goal for the composer. This is Putz's third contribution of this sort to be added to the De Haske catalogue, following his successful Arrows of Lightning and Four Sketches for Band.

Een reis naar Schotland inspireerde Marco Putz om een compositie van Schotse volksliederen voor blaasorkest te schrijven. Vlak voor hij terugkeerde, kocht hij een muziekboek voor fluit met daarin eenstemmige volksliederen uit alledelen van Schotland. Hij bewerkte deze naar hartenlust en voegde zelf ook enkele passages toe. Daarna orkestreerde hij het geheel voor blaasorkest. En zo zag een goed klinkend als ook educatief hoogwaardige suite voor (jeugd)orkesthet levenslicht!

Auf einer Schottlandreise hatte Marco Pütz die Idee, eine Komposition über schottische Volkslieder für Blasorchester zu schreiben. Kurz vor dem Rückfl ug kaufte er sich eine Flotenschule mit einstimmigen Volksliedern aus allen Teilen Schottlands, die er dann frei nach seinem Geschmack harmonisierte, anpasste, einige Passagen hinzufügte und schliesslich das Ganze für Blasorchester setzte. So entstand eine ebenso wohlklingende wie padagogisch anspruchsvolle Suite für (Jugend-)Blasorchester.

Pays aux mille legendes, a la fois austere et romantique, l'Ecosse a inspire de nombreux cineastes, ecrivains et musiciens dont Marco Putz, qui signe avec From the Highlands, une nouvelle œuvre captivante. Apres avoir harmonise librement plusieurs melodies ecossaises traditionnelles, modifie leur traitement rythmique et ajoute quelques elements personnels, Marco Putz a reussi a concevoir un charmant condense musical de cette terre de nature. From the Highlands s'inscrit dans un projet contribuant a enrichir, en quantite et en qualite, le repertoire original pour Orchestres Juniors/Orchestres a l'Ecole. Marco Putz y est particulierement attentif. Apres le vifsucces remporte par ses pieces Arrows of Lightning et Four Sketches for Band, il s'agit la de sa troisieme contribution educative publiee dans le catalogue des editions De Haske.
