Prelude and Chorale is a scintillating, dynamic opening piece based on the brilliant finale from the earlier concert work Aureus. The latter work is built around a magnificent hymn—which also forms the common thread running through this overture.As the title suggests, the work begins with a modern ‘prelude’: a prologue to the actual hymn. The beginning of the hymn, especially, serves as the source of the thematic material. The hymn melody itself is immediately embellished by a counter-melody and supported by a rhythm section of bass and drums. This all leads to an energetic passage in which the proverbial stops are pulled out once more.

Prelude and Chorale is een sprankelend, dynamisch openingswerk dat gebaseerd is op de spetterende finale van het eerder gecomponeerde concertwerk Aureus. Dit laatste werk is opgebouwd rond een magistraal koraal - datmeteen ook de rode draad vormt in deze nieuwe ouverture Zoals de titel al onthult, opent het werk met een moderne ‘prelude’: een voorspel op het eigenlijke koraal. Het is vooral het begin van de koraalmelodie die hier dienst doetals bron voor het thematisch materiaal. Het koraal zelf wordt onmiddellijk omspeeld door een tegenmelodie en ondersteund door een ritmische bas- en slagwerksectie. Dit alles sluit af met een energetische passage waarin alle spreekwoordelijkeregisters nog eens worden opengetrokken.

Prelude and Chorale ist ein funkelndes, dynamisches Eröffnungswerk, das auf dem strahlenden Finale aus dem früheren Konzertwerk Aureus basiert. Letzteres Werk ist rund um einen großartigen Choral aufgebaut - welcher zugleich auch den durch diese Ouvertüre laufenden roten Faden bildet.Wie der Titel bereits andeutet, beginnt das Werk mit einem modernem ‚Präludium’: ein Vorspiel zum eigentlichen Choral. Es ist vor allem der Anfang des Chorals, der hier als Quelle des thematischen Materials dient. Der Choral selbst wird unmittelbar von einer Gegenmelodie umspielt und von einer rhythmischen Bass- und Schlagzeuggruppe unterstützt. Dies alles mündet in eineenergiereiche Passage, in der alle sprichwörtlichen Register noch einmal gezogen werden.

Prelude and Chorale est une scintillante et dynamique pièce d’ouverture, basée sur le brillant final d’une oeuvre écrite antérieurement, Aureus. La nouvelle composition s’articule autour d’un hymne splendide qui constitue également le fil conducteur de cette ouverture. Comme le suggère le titre, le morceau débute par un «prélude» moderne : un prologue de l’hymne actuel. Les premières mesures de ce nouvel hymne donnent naissance au matériel thématique de l’oeuvre. Soutenue par une ligne rythmique jouée par les cuivres graves et les percussions, la trame mélodique se trouve immédiatement magnifiée par un contre-chant. Enfin, l’orchestre entier s’activepleinement dans un énergique passage menant au climax de l’oeuvre.
