Composed by Snorri Hallgrímsson. 21st Century,Contemporary Classical,Funeral. 6 pages. Published by Carlssons Kluster (S0.347753).

Composed by Snorri Hallgrímsson. Composition year: 2017. Secular.

Shimmering, close harmonies and subtle dissonance sets the tone for this beautiful a cappella setting of the Icelandic poem, on the theme of grief, by Elín Elísabet Einarsdottír. Reykjavík-born composer Snorri Hallgrímsson, who is a long-time collaborator with the well-known fellow Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds, excels in expression through simplicity in this strikingly heartfelt composition. Choral score comes with translation and phonetic text.

Original text

Ég ber harm minn í hljóði.
Hann kemur engum við.
Að gamalgrónum sið
ég græt í mínu ljóði.

Ég heyri kátan kliðinn
í kringum augu mín,
en týnd er tunga þín.
Minn tím’ er löngu liðinn.

English translation

I bear my grief in silence.
It is no one’s but my own.
As so many before me,
I weep through my poem.

I hear the happy chatter
ring around my eyes,
yet your tongue is lost.
My time has long since passed

Choral score, 6 pages. Duration: 4:00.

Suitable for concert programs concerning themes such as loss, spirituality, sorrow, grief, reconciliation, love, friendship. Also for sacred use at funerals or in service on All Saint's Day.
