Lassen's Zwei Phantasiestucke (Two Fantasies), opus 48 for Bass Trombone and Orchestra were composed in 1873 while he was music director in Weimar after Liszt's retirement.
This scholarly edition by Peter Celentano Jr. has been edited for solo with Piano accompaniment.
The 1st movement Andacht (Devotion), is slow, lyrical and serious, while the 2nd movement Abendreigen (Evening Folk Dance) is playful and joyous. This music will make a great addition for recitals.
It is one of the first Bass Trombone solos from the Romantic period and is appropriate for moderately advanced performers and may also be performed on a Trombone with f-attachment.
This work of about 8-9 minutes in length.
