It is however a very fine piece which exploits the potential of his compositions to be transferred to other ensembles. A very good student or amateur quartet will enjoy the modern nuances in the off-beat rhythms, and will relish the opportunity to turn the piece into a highly effective concert item. As always, it is possible to juxtapose two O Carolan tunes. This one could be preceded by a slow movement such as O' Carolan's Devotion".
