With both piano and violin having the same amount of importance in the piece, the conflicting character of the sonata form is not only shown through the two thematic ideas but also through the "battle" between two instruments. The music took many inspirations from some of the Russian composers of the 20th Century, presenting a humorous and unsettling sound.
