Published by Melody Dawning (A0.954084).A Midwestern Fanfare, so named in homage of Eric Ewazen’s A Western Fanfare for Brass Quintet, was composed for the Drake University Faculty Brass Quintet in June of 2009. The piece is based on the rhythmic motive of two sixteenth notes and a quarter note, which, when stated in succession in 4-4 time, causes a hemiola to occur. An arpeggiated fanfare figure becomes a secondary rhythmic motive.
