It is only in the last twenty-five years that there has been any serious investigation into the wealth of achievement that is Joseph Haydn's. His keyboard music in particular has been given attention mainly by amateurs and teachers, with very few performances on the concert stage. For this release, Jane Coop has tackled Haydn's piano sonatas. Haydn's treatment of the piano sonata is nothing less than bold and innovative. Every movement explores an entirely different range of musical thought, with tremendous variety in mood, texture and rhythm. Jane Coop is widely known as Canada's most brilliant pianist. She appears regularly with major orchestras in North America. Critics have applauded her "virtuosic ease" and found her playing "completely beguiling." She lives in Vancouver, where she is Professor of Piano and Chamber music at the University of British Columbia.
