Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) was known for his tango compositions, particularly those that revolutionized the traditional tango into a new genre called Nuevo tango, which incorporated elements of classical and jazz music. For this album, Piazzolla's works for violin and piano have been paired with excerpts from The Magic Fire, by Argentine playwright Lilian Garret-Groag. Performing these works are pianist Nancy Roldan, violinist Jose Cueto, and vocalist Gabriella Cavallero.
