Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869389).I was in the midst of composing this octet for Eric Hewitt and the Boston Conservatory Wind Ensemble when I heard that Gunther Schuller died, on Sunday June 21, 2015. Gunther was my first composition teacher when I was a graduate student at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. On impulse I decided to redirect this work to Gunther Schuller, in memoriam. The title is Requiem Octet. All the melodies in the octet are coupled with the Latin text from the requiem.
There are eight movements.
