Mark Hayes: Jazz Hymns for the Intermediate Pianist by Mark Hayes Piano Solo - Sheet Music
By Mark HayesMark Hayes is known for his dazzling piano artistry. However, many of the players who love his arrangements wish that they didn't have quite so many notes or require such large reaches. Mark's third book of "intermediate" solos—designed specifically for these players—includes spirituals and Gospel songs with all of the brilliant Hayes trademark jazz chords and "licks" but in settings that can be mastered more easily. You'll feel the joy the first time you open the book at home; then you'll want to share it with your congregation.

These are beautiful and gratifuying arrangements. I am a professional pianist and have enjoyed using these in church. They are tasteful, sonorous, and fun to play. I would say, however, that these may be more advanced than Intermediate, and even if they are not incredibly difficult, it takes a very good pianist and musician to do these arrangements justice.

At first I didn't like the music arrangements in the book, but after playing them for a time they began to grow on me. This book, for me, was a challenge but well worth the time and effort.

This is my initial introduction to this arranger. I like his style & rhythms. There's a flow to his arrangements. But while he could add a few more jazz chords, I'm learning to improvise on my own! I'm happy with his music & recommend it to others.

He's done it again. THANK YOU, Mark!!! Beautiful twist to old hymns. I thoroughly worship the Lord through my fingers with these not-too difficult arrangements.

Easy to read and fun to play. Very useful for playing when congregations recognize the tune, but may shy away from too much jazz!

Love this book, pieces have a real jazz feel, not just a few grace notes to make it sound jazzy, pieces are not too difficult and not too easy, great variety in tempos and rhythms. best arrangement of Peace Like a River I've ever found. this book is a great choice for your collection!

Love this arrangement which is very hard to come by at south east asia. Many thanks to Sheet music plus which have arranged the air express to deliver this book to my doorstep at Malaysia.

What a find! I've never looked into jazz for hymns, but a friend said I should try this style. My first fav was This Little Light Of Mine, but I've also enjoyed the Children's songs medly. All the tips given are very helpful. It is especially nice to be able to listen to samples of these arrangements. Thanks, Mark, for the help in stretching my comfort zone & these old fingers!

I am really enjoying this book. The pieces are easy to work up, fun to play, and fun to listen to. I get loads of smiles and compliments at church when I use these pieces for preludes and offertories. My congregation just loves this music and so do I. The jazz styles are varied, e.g., spiritual and bossa nova.

I am enjoying playing this music by Mark Hayes. I have always loved his arrangements. Some of the books I have are difficult, but this one is a little easier for me to play. Thank you for carrying his music.

I absolutely love this book and haven't quit playing it since receiving it for a Christmas gift. I can play every song in it and really like the arrangements. My husband even asks me what I'm playing. People at church like the music too.

Thank you, Mark, for another great intermediate book! These arrangements are so much fun to play. I've never played a lot of jazz. I tend to look for more mellow, intropective hymn arrangements for preludes and offertories. But, I'm going to wake up my congregation with a few of these songs. Not too hard to master and all of the chords fit in my small hands. Mark Hayes continues to be my all-time favorite arranger!

I purchased this volume immediately when it became available, without even looking at it, knowing the quality of Mark Hayes arrangements. Very pleased!! The jazz style I love to play and my congregation enjoys, but easy enough that a fairly advanced pianist should need only minimal practice. Rare to find music this well written, interesting, and innovative in the intermediate difficulty category. Particularly love the arrangements of traditional spirituals. All pianists are happy to find music that sounds more difficult than it is, and fun to play! Five stars!
