The Nativity of Our Lord is scored for SATB chorus, violoncello and harp. The original version was commissioned by Pro Arte Singers, Arthur Sjogren, Music Director. Written in cantata form, all sections of the work originate from he five-note scale presented at the outset. The creation of this Christmas cantata was the subject of a documentary entitled Making Art. Filmed by Connecticut Public Television in 1993, this documentary traced the creation of this work from the first musical sketches through the premiere performance. This performance was given in Stamford, Connecticut during December of 1993 by Pro Arte Singers conducted by Arthur Sjogren.
