Hexade - a word invented in reference to the six strings of the instrument - is a piece for guitar alone written at the request of Karim Samah to which it is dedicated.
It consists of four main sequences. The first sequence - Maestoso - displays a solemn, even tragic character. Andante describes the second sequence as a kind of romance, melody accompanied by arpeggios, a style reflecting one of the most traditional uses of the guitar. After the abbreviated recall of the Maestoso appears an Allegro moderato, third sequence conceived in a syncopated rhythm. The fourth and final sequence is intended to highlight the virtuosity of the player in a Presto that ends with the return of the initial Maestoso, which completes the work in the sweetness of five harmonic sounds.
