Good Book! The riffs are good and sometimes challenging. They're also in various keys so it helps you get the feel for the blues in different keys. This is a great book for improving your piano play so you can add nice blues riffs to your playing.

  • August 18, 2007 Very Good Resource For Blues Licks

This book is a very good book on showing you bits and pieces of riffs/licks from blues, rock, gospel, R & B, and boogie woogie that will help enhance your playing. You can incorporate these licks in a variety of music. For example, I am incorporating these licks into my...

jazz and blues piano playing. Some of the licks however, are not that good but for the most part they are very good. This is not a book that teaches you how to play the blues but gives you bass lines, 12 bar blues form and 2 pieces at the end of the book that show you how to combine the riffs to make your own songs. A very good resource ranging from the intermediate to the advanced and it will help your playing sound better.

  • March 23, 2007 Does (almost) what it says

This book does what it says - provides you with 100 blues riffs straight. But, I wouldn't really consider them "ultimate". Maybe 25-30% of them fells like the author ran out of ideas and had to "fill up". Secondly, I can't really see the logic in the different...

sections (R&B, Rhytm'n'blues etc). They feel somewhat arbitrary - an R&B-categorized riff could equally fit into any other category. Now, this is starting to sound all negative, but the pros easily outweighs the cons with clear layout, a nice cd, and riffs presented in different keys and not just the same old C or G. I think, by and large, that this book clearly is a valuable source for anyone with a few years experience in piano, interested in developing his bluestechniques.
