This poignant Christmas text by an early 20th-century African American poet tells us that “the manger outshines the throne.” Christ, “the gem of love,” was born into a world filled with suffering. Each verse concludes with the acclamation “Hosanna, Christus natus est!” A fine Christmas anthem rooted in the reality of the world.
