Beautiful.
Iconic.
Enigmatic.

I suppose this piece by Erik Satie has always touched the heartstrings of listeners. The harmonic language anticipates many sonorities that have become essential to later popular and jazz piano.

Is this an example of a "one hit wonder"?  It is undeniably famous, as evidenced by its continued use as background music for television ads of high end luxury goods.

I often wonder what Satie eventually thought of this piece. This Gymnopedie is obviously his best known work, so I wonder if it also stands out as having generated the most revenue for Satie. If so, why didn't he replicate its success? Did he understand what he himself had created?

So many questions... I guess I'll have to ask Alexa.
