A musical portrait of an American winter scene, set in New England. Conjuring white birches, dripping ice, submerged towns, graves, hills. The title and final line of text are a recollection of Robert Frost's best-known poem, a favorite in American classrooms. Moods ranging from the crispness of an impressionistic piano accompaniment, to the chant-like, heavy contemplation of giant landscape changes, and a jazzy, rhythmically shifting acknowledgement of chilly winds. Closing with a humorous, jazzy twist winks at Old Man Winter. Useful for winter, spring, or Christmas concerts, or celebrations of American scenes and history.  
The evocative text by the Australian landscape poet Glen Phillips begins with these lines:

From this hilltop where the flash
of silver birches challenges snow
in its remnant drifts, ....
