About
My first Opus dedicated to Bruno Peres is a set of variations based on his theme.

Variations

I. Presto scherzando
A light-hearted and sarcastic variation using the upbeat as well as the ascending A for its material. After a brief shift to G Major, it ends with D Major arpeggios and a final descent to D.

II. Poco allegro

This variation starts off-beat with a swinging upper voice and triplets. It combines the triplet figuration and swing of the original theme. It also features a modulation to B Major before closing.

III. Largo e mesto
A slow and dark variation in D minor the parallel key of D Major. The main theme is set in minor. This variation is characterized by long runs of eight notes and use of the harmonic scale. (C#)

IV. Allegretto: Fugato
Still, in D minor a fugato is created using the theme as the main subject. The fugato breaks a lot of rules since my contrapuntal writing is not the best. But worth an attempt.

V. Andante semplice
A simple and playful variation in F major. This variation starts with repeated Fs creating a drum-like effect that is heard throughout the variation.

VI. Allegro con fuoco
A wild and dramatic variation contrasting the more placid fifth. Set in G minor the right-hand plays a storm of sixteen notes while the left-hand uses the upbeat to form the lower voice. This is the most difficult portion of the set.

VII. Ballade: Lento
The concluding variation of the set finally returning to the key of D major. This variation uses most of the motifs of the theme and it the most elaborate of the set with an ABCA form.(Modified ternary form)
