This tongue-in-cheek limerick tells the story of a girl with a tune stuck in her head. The accompaniment, based on the Schumann Abegg Variations, repeats the four-square theme several times, then tweaks it chromatically, representing her increasing frustration at her inability to recall where she has heard the tune before or to make it stop playing inside her head.


To be performed in recital as part of the complete Seven Limerick Songs cycle or as part of a smaller group excerpted therefrom. For high to medium high voice with piano accompaniment; duration ca. 1:15. Text by the composer.
