The text of “Be Merciful,” drawn from Luke, reminds us to be merciful to others as God is merciful to us, the verses provide concrete examples. Alternate choral settings for the verses (two-part and “backup”) offer some variety. The relaxed tone suggests natural use as a prelude or even at the preparation of gifts, post-Communion, or other times of reflection. Originally written for the Jubilee Year of Mercy, this song will be appropriate as long as the need for mercy remains.
