With his Op. 28 Hummel composed another series of dances dedicated to the Apollosaal, the most fascinating amusement hall of Old Vienna, which had been opened up on the 10 of January of the same year. It includes twelve Deutsche Tanze with additional Trios and a large Coda. The second version of the part of Deutscher Tanz No.9 which quotes Hummel's ballet Helena und Paris immensely popular at the time, adds character to the collection. These enjoyable musical miniatures offer an interesting glimpse into the creation history of the classical waltz and the world famous Viennese dance culture. They retain their charm as dance music to the present day.
