They can grow up to 13 feet long and weigh as much as 1,300 pounds. Manatees eat as much as 10% of their body weight in plants each day. They live in warmer waters and can live for up to 60 years. Manatees swim slowly but can move fast when they need to. They have great memories and recognize things visually and by sound. They lead a solitary life. Manatees are endangered due to noise, boat strikes, pollution, and a certain type of algae which reduces oxygen in the water.
