I'm not familiar with another that uses the term 'leathern ratchin skin.' I find the regional variants in tune and text charming. There is no 'Urtext.' It gives a window into the time of tradition, before the rise of mass communication.
I made this arrangement for a chorus I sing with; they premiered it on their 2006 holiday program. Take the 'flexible' sections as a choral recitative .. it will come round right.
