Yrjo Kilpinen (1892-1959) is one of the best-known and most prolific Finnish song writers, with 850 songs listed in his oeuvre. Songs by him are frequently performed in Central Europe and the Nordic countries, and to some extent in England. In his songs Kilpinen sought to break away from the heaviness of the Late Romantic era, and the results do indeed have a Neoclassical simplicity. The solos songs are published in 2 volumes and edited by Gustav Djupsjobacka and Matti Tuloisela. Volume 1 contains a representative selection of settings of texts by Finnish and Swedish poets.
