Composed in commemoration of the 2006 Football World Cup. The World Cup is a global event that only takes place every four years and that is preceded by a number of qualifying rounds. In the actual event, the final tournament, only the best in the world meet. It is a special honor and responsibility to be the host of the final tournament. Welcome Overture musically expresses hospitality and warmth towards all people, regardless of colour or race; an attitude that is symbolic of the World Cup. A fantastic work that your audiences will enjoy time and time again.
In Welcome Overture wordt het WK Voetbal verklankt. Het werk opent met een fanfare in de trompetten. De daaropvolgende cantabile passage beschrijft de aankomst van de teams. Nu kan het beginnen! Het andante schetst de droomvan een speler. Dan neemt de muziek de luisteraar mee naar een volle tribune in het stadion waar de finale net is begonnen. Ten slotte geven de trompetten de enorme vreugde van het winnende team weer en weerspiegelt een monumentalefinale de afsluiting van het WK. Welcome Overture ademt gastvrijheid en hartelijkheid tegenover alle mensen, ongeacht kleur of ras.
Schwarz komponierte die Welcome Overture zum Empfang der saudiarabischen Mannschaft in Bad Nauheim zur Fußballweltmeisterschaft 2006. Sein Stück beginnt mit fanfareartigen Trompeten zur Eröffnung des Turniers, dann laufen im Cantabile alle Mannschaften ein. Ein Spieler träumt im langsamen Andante vom Sieg, bevor das Endspiel und der Sieger monumental gefeiert werden. Die wichtigste Botschaft des Werkes ist jedoch der friedliche Wettstreit der Nationen und die Gastfreundschaft während des Turniers.
