By Kimberley Locke. By Jerry Herman. Arranged by Charles Beale. Disney. Octavo. 9 pages. Charliebmusic #5313453. Published by charliebmusic (A0.865875).

We Need a Little Christmas’ comes from the 1966 Jerry Herman musical ‘Mame’, and was sung by Angela Lansbury on Broadway. Usually an upbeat fast showtune, this surprising arrangement treats the song as a ballad. It focuses on the more wistful aspects of the lyric, about how after a year we have grown a little older, wise and (perhaps!) leaner. It is slow, legato, largely quiet and chorally contrapuntal in places.

To give your show an arc, think about about using the other, contrasting arrangement of this song by Charlie, which is the more conventional upbeat show-2 finale. He originally wrote both for one Holiday program, and put one at the beginning and the other at the end.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard’s global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters.
