The 32 Miniatures, which Vogler conceived primarily for performance as splendid sounding organ voluntaries, and which can also be performed on the piano, are ideally suited as brief separate voluntaries for use at church services. Their cyclic layout also suggests a complete performance, at which the harmonic and formal characteristics of the Preludes are revealed, along with Vogler's predilection for dynamic gradations, try means of which he sought to imitate the varying sonorities of an orchestra.
