SKU: A0.998891

Composed by Robert A. Howard. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Instructional. Individual part. 3 pages. Robert A. Howard #6572653. Published by Robert A. Howard (A0.998891).

The starting point for the first of these two studies is a variant of the opening snare drum rhythm of the second movement of Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra (1943). This work was originally a short piece from 1995 (marking 50 years after Bartok's death). It was later extended and elaborated upon to make this virtuosic two-minute study. The companion piece, Study for Snare No. 2, takes an initial rhythmic idea and repeats it in crescendo, adding increasing ornamentation and rhythmic complexity on each cycle. These pieces are highly accessible and appropriate for most standards of percussionist, including students and more advanced players. Each study is also available separately, from Sheet Music Plus.
Duration: 4 minutes 10 seconds.
