These two pieces; Vista Point and Squirrel Creek were inspired by hiking destinations in the mountains of Colorado, to two foundation ruins of lodges built in the 1920s, then later burned down. My thought was that there was surely a piano in these lodges and Scott Joplin pieces were likely among the repertoire of the pianists of that era.
