Composed by Kenneth Amis. Music of Black Composers and Artists. Premiered by the Empire Brass trumpeter, Marc Reese. Score and Parts. Duration 7 minutes. Amis Musical Circle #AMC-BR-055. Published by Amis Musical Circle (AI.AMC-BR-055).Commissioned by Marc Reese and the Conservatory at Lynn University, the writing of Trumpeters' Lullaby was inspired by my experience under the mentorship of the late Roger Voisin (who premiered Leroy Anderson's A Trumpeter's Lullaby with the Boston Pops Orchestra several decades earlier), the recent birth of Marc's first born and the disposition I had humorously observed among Marc's growing studio of trumpet students. Given the amount of crying from the average newborn baby and the amount of whining from some of Marc's trumpet students, the performers had no problem recreating these effects (notated through half valves, half-valve scoops and grace notes) while the soloist (Trumpet 1) sang them back to sleep.
