The third movement of the Trump Card Suite is sub-titled "Davey," and is a pretty ethereal, but at the same time expressive, melody over light orchestral-type underpinnings and harmonic pedals. There is amply opportunity for the soloist to play melody and also improvisationally stretch out (easy chord changes) when the piece progresses to an aggressive double-time swing. This is one for your lyrical trumpet soloist. Solos: Trumpet. No doubles. Optional parts for French horns, tuba, and percussion. Originally written for Dave Scott.
